Eumorpha vitis is widely distributed in lowlands of the subtropical and tropical Americas from Texas and Florida to northern Argentina, and in the Greater and Lesser Antilles; strays recorded in the Midwest. The wingspan is 85-105 mm. The forewing is dark brown with pinkish-white bands and streaks. The hindwing is light gray with a dark outer band and a pink patch along the inner margin. Adults drink nectar of various Apocynaceae, and perhaps Orchidaceae. The larvae feed on leaves of the Vitaceae (including Vitis and Cissus spp.), Onagraceae (Ludwigia spp.), etc. E. vitis flies from April to November in the southern United States and year-round in the tropics.
